Lincoln City Indoor
Windless Kite Festival
March 23-26, 2005
OREGON’S FIRST INDOOR KITE FLYING COMPETITION
Lincoln City, OR – On Saturday, March 26th Lincoln City will host Oregon’s first indoor kite flying competition. This unique event will feature indoor kite fliers from all over the Northwest competing to qualify for the indoor Grand National competition at the 2005 AKA convention in Ocean City, Maryland.
The competition will be the culmination of the Lincoln City Indoor Windless Kite Festival, March 23-26, 2005. Yes, it’s true. If you have the right kite and know how to do it, you can fly kites indoors without wind---and have great fun even if the weather outside is frightful! So that everyone can enjoy this great sport, Lincoln City is bringing six expert indoor kite fliers from Washington, California, and Toronto to demonstrate the art and teach kids of all ages how to soar without wind. The festival will be held at Taft High School at 3780 SE Spyglass Ridge, just two blocks east of Highway 101 at High School Drive from 1 to 6 p.m. each day.
Among the featured fliers and teachers are Lee and Debbie Park from Santa Clarita, CA, who have combined artistic gymnastics, aerial dance, and hand-balancing maneuvers with indoor kite flying. The result is not only expert indoor windless kite flying, but also an awe-inspiring aerial ballet reminiscent of shows like Cirque du Solei. For a glimpse of what you will see, visit their website at www.indoorkiteflying.com.
Lam Hoac will be coming from Toronto, Ontario to show us why he was crowned Grand National Champion at the 2004 AKA convention in Dayton, Ohio, where he won six competitions. Lam is a consummate kite champion and performer.
This great family entertainment and education opportunity is available to everyone during spring break for only $1 for admission ($2 for a family of two adults and children 15 and under) for all four days and $1 for the materials to build your own kite for flying.
